We own and operate a fully recirculating aquaculture facility with a total capacity of one million litres of water growing Barramundi, Tiger Prawns and Abalone.
We would like to introduce Brown and Rainbow Trout in the future, however, this would require a completely separate and independent system as Trout are a fresh water species.
The type of facility we operate is commonly referred to as a RAS system; a Recirculating Aquaculture System.
This means that the facility is completely isolated and independent from all external points of contact to greatly reduce the possibility of contamination from external sources.
Our facility is split into two sections, each independent of the other, with its own plant and machinery.
This is a more expensive setup but, again, greatly reduces the possibility of cross-contamination from internal sources.
The first section of the facility is the HATCHERY.
As the names suggests, this is where fingerlings and spawning occurs. This area is under strict quarantine conditions and entry is guarded to only those staff that work in this area.
The hatchery consists of 8 tanks, each 2.5m diameter x 1.5m deep, and ancillary tanks for algae and larvae.
The second section of the facility is the main GROW-OUT area.
As the name suggests, this is where the fingerlings are transferred to and cared for until market growth is achieved.
The grow-out facility consists of 8 tanks, each 5m diameter x 1.5m deep, and a number of 12m long enclosed ‘raceways’ for the Abalone.
Both sections have their own independent plant and machinery for the purpose of filtration, ozone and UV sterilisation, oxygenation, purification of nitrates, nitrates and ammonia before the water is then recycled back into the tanks.
This process is constantly monitored via sensors located at various points in the system that provide real-time data, both locally and remotely.
This ensures and guarantees the health of the total system can be constantly monitored, which then allows us to produce only the highest quality produce for the market.
